If you are considering therapy, it is natural to have questions about how the process works. Below are answers to the things I am most commonly asked.
Frequently Asked Questions
Each 50-minute session is £50. Payment is required 24 hours in advance, and a copy of the full cancellation policy is available upon request.
Weekly sessions are recommended because they provide a consistent and reliable space for you to reflect, process, and build momentum in your therapeutic work. Meeting regularly helps to develop a sense of trust and continuity, allowing you to stay connected to what you are exploring rather than feeling as though you are starting again each time. However, I understand this may not always be possible, and attending less frequently will depend entirely on your circumstances and personal choice.
This depends entirely on you and is a very individual thing. It may be that therapy can help you see things differently in just a few sessions, or it may be that deep-rooted issues require work over a longer period of time. We will review your progress regularly to ensure our sessions remain relevant and helpful. You are free to end our therapy at any point, as my aim is always to support you until you are ready to move forward confidently on your own.
We will meet face to face in my comfortable, private room in Leigh-on-sea. Please note that as there is no waiting room at this location, I kindly request that you arrive precisely at your scheduled appointment time to protect your privacy. I also offer online therapy via Zoom or Teams should this be your preference.
When you are ready, please contact me via text or email to arrange a free 20-minute phone consultation. This is a no-obligation opportunity to discuss why you want to come to counselling and ask any questions you may have about the process. It will also allow us both to see whether we are going to feel comfortable working together. Finding the right counsellor for you is really important, and the call should help to ensure you are making the right decision.
Integrative therapy is a flexible and holistic approach to counselling that recognises there is no single method that suits everyone. Instead of working from one fixed model, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches and adapt them to meet your individual needs, personality and circumstances. This means together we can explore your thoughts, feelings, past experiences and patterns of behaviour in a way that feels most helpful for you. Integrative therapy looks at the whole person, acknowledging how different aspects of your life connect and influence one another.
Our first session is all about helping you feel settled and getting to know each other. We will talk a little more about what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to achieve. There is absolutely no pressure to share your whole life story or talk about anything you do not feel ready to discuss. It is simply a gentle, unhurried space for you to see how it feels to talk with me and ensure you feel safe and comfortable.
Yes, confidentiality is a core part of building a safe and trusting relationship. Everything you share with me remains completely private within my practice. The only rare exceptions to this would be if I felt there was a serious risk of significant harm to yourself or someone else, or due to a legal requirement. Should any situation arise where I need to speak to another professional, I would always aim to discuss it with you first.
It is incredibly common for one partner to feel nervous, hesitant, or worried about being blamed during couples therapy. If this is the case, our initial 20-minute phone call can be a great, no-obligation way for both of you to ask questions. My role is to provide a completely balanced space where neither person is judged. Many couples find that once they experience the calm, neutral atmosphere of the room, the anxiety around starting begins to lift.
